Another Infection Warning to Everyone Who Wears Contact-Lenses… Bausch & Lomb ReNu MultiPlus Contact Lens Solution Eye Infection…
In 2006 Bausch & Lomb issued a worldwide recall of its contact lens solution, ReNu with MoistureLoc. The Bausch & Lomb recall was issued after a worldwide outbreak of sight threatening eye infections was linked by several government health agencies around the world to Bausch's ReNu solution. Our firm is currently representing several dozen injured contact lens wearers who suffered eye infections while using ReNu with MoistureLoc.
Bausch and Lomb's flagship solution, ReNu MultiPlus Multi-Purpose Solution has also been linked to the development of serious eye infections in contact lens wearers. The Ministry of Health in Singapore refused to allow the sale of either Bausch solution after linking both to serious infection in 2005 and 2006. Despite the findings, Bausch and Lomb not only continues to sell ReNu MultiPlus Multipurpose solution but denies that its use is potentially dangerous.
Searcy Denney is interested in investigating cases for users of Bausch and Lomb's ReNu MultiPlus Solution.
Contact lens wearers who develop eye infections most often suffer eye symptoms, including:
- Excessive tearing
- Redness,pain
- Unusual discharge
- Light sensitivity (photophobia), and loss of sight.
Untreated, these eye infections can result in corneal ulceration, corneal scarring, or the loss of the eye altogether. Corneal transplantation may be required in significant cases and can lead to life-long complications.
If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, we encourage you to immediately seek treatment from a competent eye care professional. Often time is of the essence to prevent serious eye injury. If you believe the infection may be associated with the contact lens solution you were using, maintain possession of the bottle(s) of solution, your contacts and the contact lens case.
ReNu MultiPlus is marketed as a "no rub" solution. Bausch claims that its solution is strong enough to kill germs without rubbing the lenses prior to soaking. However, it is possible that making the solution strong enough to eliminate the rub step requires adding enough toxic disinfectant that it exposes the eye to injury during lens wear.
Searcy Denney is currently investigating eye infections in soft contact lens wearers who used a variety of "no rub" contact lens solutions.
