Bausch & Lomb Renu Recall. Fusarium Keratitis Class Action Lawsuit a Special Alert to Contact-Lens Wearers:
Your eyes could be in Danger. Bausch & Lomb Recall of ReNu with MoistureLoc Linked to Fusarium Keratitis.
The eye is the window to the soul, says an old proverb.
At Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, we don’t know whether or not that’s true.
What we do know is this: there are few things more painful or more dangerous than eye infections. And we are outraged that innocent victims are facing cornea scarring or blindness at the hands of a contact lens solution manufacturer, despite repeated warnings from the FDA.
We are representing clients who have suffered fungal eye infections known as fungal keratitis or (fusarium keratitis) after using the Bausch and Lomb product ReNu with MoistureLoc. While several class action lawsuits have already been filed – combining hundreds, if not thousands of clients into a single case – We are preparing and presenting each client’s case, one by one.
That’s because our passion for justice extends to you, our client, and we would not ask you to give up your individual rights in order to join a large group.
If you or a family member has used Bausch and Lomb’s ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution, you should consult an ophthalmologist immediately. Because in April 2006, Bausch and Lomb recall shipments of this product after health officials in Singapore discovered 39 cases of a dangerous fungal eye infections, fusarium keratitis, in patients who had used the solution.
Fusarium keratitis symptoms include:
- Eye pain
- Hypersensitivity to light, and/or
- Temporary or even permanent blindness
Treatment includes anti-fungal medications, sometimes surgery to remove ulcers and corneal scars, and, in extreme cases, corneal transplants.
The Singapore alert was not the first time this issue had surfaced. In July 2002 – nearly four years before Bausch and Lomb halted its shipments – the U.S. Federal Drug Administration warned the company about issues related to its manufacturing and packing processes. And just before the April shipment suspension, the FDA issued another warning indicating an increasing number of fungal eye infections in contact lens wearers.
There are at least 109 cases of known fungal keratitis under investigation by public health authorities.
At Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, we have a 30-year track record of successfully pursuing justice for clients involved in a variety of product liability cases, including health care product liability cases
